I have a passion for educating the public on why they need to keep personal medical records in a book such as My Medical Assistant®.

I have had the opportunity to present books to Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell, and other Pennsylvania officials including the Physician General, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Welfare, the Secretary of the Department of Aging, and the Secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs. Local representatives and state senators also have received copies of My Medical Assistant® and have provided me with favorable comments about its quality and potential.

Representatives of Senator Hilary Clinton have discussed its use in the federal government for employees and military families, and former Pennsylvania Congressman Don Sherwood arranged for a visit at Walter Reed Hospital where I donated 70 books for soldiers’ use upon discharge.

In August of 2006, Today’s Health and Wellness Magazine awarded its seal of approval to My Medical Assistant® after 350 members test marketed the book. As a result of that marketing effort, I sold books throughout the United States.

My Medical Assistant® has been used as a fund raiser and one of the most prominent has been Montel Williams’ Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, which receives a 20-percent donation for all books sold through its Web site.

Speaking Engagements and Workshops
“The Importance of Maintaining Your Medical Records” is a program I offer to community organizations. During the program, numerous scenarios are shared about situations where My Medical Assistant® would have been helpful. Those in attendance can usually relate to one or two of the scenarios and begin to understand the importance of having their medical information in writing.

A customer sent this comment in an e-mail: “A year ago I lost my uncle because no one knew his medical information or family history. After this incident I realized I had to get my family’s information recorded in case we were faced with a similar situation. I bought 12 of these awesome books!”

Another involved a young woman coping with seizures since fifth grade. Now 22, she is unable to work because her seizures are more intense and more frequent. She has applied for social security disability benefits but it has been denied. I invited her to participate in the test marketing for the My Medical Assistant® Seizure Record Book. When her attorney saw the book and detailed records she has been keeping for the market test, he told her that he now feels confident she will receive her much-needed disability benefits.

I have developed and presented programs such as “The Importance of Maintaining Your Medical Records” and “What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know Could Kill You!” to various organizations in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida.

Other speaking engagements include the Rotary, business women’s organizations, church groups, Chamber of Commerce committees, Alzheimer’s Support Group, to name a few. The format and title are adjusted according the group I address. I also was the guest speaker for the quarterly parent meeting of Hope Enterprise, Inc. a large organization that provides multiple services to the disabled in a three-county area. Their services include early childhood development program, residential program, adult day care, and an industrial program providing services to local businesses.

Radio/Television/Web Interviews
At the World Congress and Expo for Disabilities, I participated in an impromptu interview regarding My Medical Assistant® on Xable.com, a site developed by a disabled young man so others could share, learn, create and network with the world’s disabled. The interview is seen worldwide and is found by clicking this link, or on the Internet at www.xable.com/videos/100230.

In conjunction with the 2005 Book Expo of America, I attended “Meet the Media,” a workshop by Steve Harrison, founder of Radio-TV Interviewers Report. I was among nine authors selected from an audience of 120 to pitch my book to a media panel of five representing radio and television networks, or specific shows. I was encouraged to pitch my book to the media by all the panel members and have kept in touch with two: a senior producer for the Montel William’s Show and a producer for FOX News.

Radio Interviews
From my advertisement in Radio-TV Interviewers Report I interviewed on three talk shows. I was a guest on “Family Matters—The Mind/Body Connection,” WBCB Radio Station, Levittown, PA, and Libba HaLavey’s “Talk Cleveland” WERE AM. The David Snow Show on Station KUMU (Hawaii) discussed the book at length. I also have been interviewed on radio talk shows in Danville, Bloomsburg, and Sunbury, PA, and on the “Ken Sawyer Show” on WKSB, and on John Finn's "In Touch" on WILQ, both radio stations are in Williamsport, PA.
